About This Project

Claude-Pad is a hardware project that proposes a dedicated macropad for driving Claude Code, the command-line coding agent. The planned 11-key layout covers common actions such as approving a request, stopping execution, starting a new session, and navigating transcripts, along with a push-to-talk key. A status LED, driven by the host through Claude Code hooks, lights up when Claude is waiting for user input. The repository is documentation-focused at this stage, containing hardware directions comparing off-the-shelf and custom-build paths, a key layout draft, candidate shortcut assignments, prior art review of existing agent macropads, keycap icon legends with a generator script, and build specifications for ESP32 and RP2040 microcontrollers, along with a bill of materials.

The project is written primarily in Python and is intended to pair with the Claude Code hook system for host-side integration. A planned configuration and management tool is listed as future work. The project is classified as a proof of concept and ideation effort, and no firmware or finished prototype is described in the materials reviewed.

This project may be of interest to developers who use Claude Code heavily and want physical controls for approval and session management, as well as hobbyists exploring custom macropad builds on ESP32 or RP2040 boards. Its documentation on Linux-compatible pads and keycap printing may also be useful to those building similar input devices.
